Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is a variety of Jasper, where the dark green color of the stone is flecked or cut through with red. This gives the appearance of blood on a green surface, which is where it received its morbid name! The red spots on the bloodstone are caused by Hematite. This is the form of iron oxide that causes rust to turn bright red. It’s also why the stone in places like Prince Edward Island, Georgia, or even the surface of Mars is colored red. Bloodstone is found primarily in India. But there are also sources of it in Central Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and, interestingly, the Isle of Rum in Scotland.

🔮Crystal healing meaning🔮:
It is often used as a reminder of the maxim “life is pain,” and we should not allow struggles to overwhelm us, but instead embrace them as a part of life and a way to make us stronger. Wearing bloodstone can be highly comforting during intense struggles, such as the death of a loved one. The stone can actually absorb some of the pain of the situation into itself, meaning that although you are still conscious of the pain, you have a certain disconnect between yourself and it. Bloodstone is also a very protective stone, and is especially useful if you are being threatened. It gives you the insight to tell when to retreat and when to confront the danger, and strength and courage to work through whatever decision you make. Additionally, this stone, which is associated with the root chakra, will assist in grounding you in the physical world, which relieves depression and anxiety and will keep you focused on the “here and now,” and the “next steps” that you need to take in order to solve a problem.
