📖Crystal properties📖: The name is derived from the Greek word ‘malakos’, meaning soft. Malachite is one of only four minerals that comes in two colors. It also occurs as crystals, compact masses, and botryoidal (grape-shaped) clusters. The stone has a Mohs hardness of 3.5 – 4 and a specific gravity of 3.3 – 4.1, which makes it easily pitted by the elements. Malachite is found in copper mines around the world, usually, as a replacement of another mineral (most notably Limonite) and is often associated with Azurite. Malachite can be mined in the USA, Chile, South Africa, Australia, Romania, Russia, Zaire, and the Congo.
