It comes from the medieval Latin word Corneolus which is in reference to the Cornelian cherry, a plant species native to southern Europe. Carnelian can be found all over the world, with civilizations throughout history proving that to us today! Most of the Carnelian specimens on the market come out of Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and India.
