Rainbow Moonstone is a type of Feldspar. It has the chemical classification of sodium aluminum silicate. The color of the Rainbow Moonstone is typically determined by the presence of titanium or iron oxides. The streak of Rainbow Moonstone is white. It has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 2, making it relatively soft. Moonstone has a shimmering effect that gemologists call, “Adularescence,” which occurs from a diffraction of light inside the layers of Feldspar deep in the gem.
